Diamond Princess Set to Shine Over Summer

Australians will have more opportunities to enjoy the brilliance of Princess Cruises’ Diamond Princess next year, with the cruise line announcing three new roundtrip cruises from Sydney over the summer holiday period.

In a move which will take Princess Cruises’ summer capacity in Australia to record levels, Diamond Princess’ new offerings include the ship’s first 14-night roundtrip cruise to New Zealand, departing Sydney on December 19, 2014 for a Christmas Day and New Year celebration.

Visiting ports from Bay of Islands in the north to Dunedin in the south, fares on the cruise start from $2779* per person twin share.

Also on offer is a new eight-night cruise to Tasmania, following an enthusiastic response to Diamond Princess’ inaugural Tasmania cruise this summer.  The January 2, 2015 departure is priced from $1369* per person twin share and will visit Hobart, Port Arthur and Wineglass Bay.

Holidaymakers will also be able to enjoy a five-night roundtrip cruise from Sydney visiting Melbourne, departing December 14, 2014 with fares from $869* per person twin share.

Diamond Princess 1

The new cruises follow Princess Cruises’ recent announcement that Diamond Princess will make two 28-night circumnavigations of Australia in November 2014 and February 2015.

Fares on these cruises start from $4679 per person twin share.

Princess Cruises Executive Vice President Sales, Marketing and Customer Service Jan Swartz said the new cruises were expected to be very popular.

“Diamond Princess is a spectacular ship which already has a strong following among Australian passengers, so we’re very pleased to be able to introduce more roundtrip options for the local market,” Ms Swartz said.

Launched in 2004, the 116,000-tonne Diamond Princess carries around 2700 guests and stretches 290 metres long, making it one of the largest ships to sail in Australian waters.

The ship’s features include multiple dining options, 13 bars and lounges, five pools, a child-free Sanctuary, a mini golf course and its own wedding chapel.

On this momentous day, Royal Caribbean is proud to welcome Rhapsody of the Seas for this first time this year. The 78,000 tonne superliner will be the first international cruise ship to arrive in Sydney and the biggest on the harbour that day. Her arrival will mark the official start of the 2013-14 Australasian cruise season - slated to be Australia’s biggest cruising season to date.

Rhapsody of the Seas will arrive with 2100 guests from all over the world, including America, UK, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Norway and Spain.

In fact, with more cruises and carrying more guests than any other cruise line, Royal Caribbean International is Sydney’s largest cruise line this summer,” said Adam Armstrong, commercial director, RCL Cruises Ltd Australia.  “This is will be our largest Australian season to date, with ships staying longer for the Australian summer. We will welcome over 210,000 guests in total over the wave season, which is 10 per cent more than last year.”

Based in Sydney until 18 April 2014 and Rhapsody of the Seas’s 2013-14 program features 18 itineraries ranging from seven- to 16-nights.   Her season features cruises to the South Pacific islands including a nine-night Christmas cruise, 11-night cruises to Tropical Queensland which include two full days docked in Cairns and a seven-night Tasmanian cruise.

Rhapsody of the Seas’s arrival will be followed closely by Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas, which arrives on 11 October. Five ships from the Royal Caribbean Cruises and sister cruise line Celebrity cruises will sail in Australian waters this season, including the largest and most innovative ship based in the region, Voyager of the Seas, and Celebrity Solstice, Australia’s youngest superliner epitomising ‘modern-luxury’. Royal Caribbean International was also recently voted ‘Best Australian Based Cruise Line’ at the National Travel Industry Awards.

Upscale Cruise Line Azamara Club Cruises to Visit Australia for the First Time

Boutique cruise line finally visits its third largest market, making maiden calls in late 2015

Sydney, October 1, 2013: Azamara Club Cruises is coming to Australia for the very first time in the cruise line’s four-year history.

Azamara Quest – one of the boutique cruise line’s two jewel-box ships – will visit Australia as part of a 14-night holiday and New Year’s voyage from 22nd December 2015 until 5th January 2016.

Azamara Quest will sail from Bali to Australia, making maiden port calls at Thursday Island and Darwin, as well as at Great Barrier Reef-destinations Cooktown, Port Douglas; and ending in Cairns. The exciting news for Australians comes as Azamara Club Cruises unveils its full 2015 program.

“Azamara Club Cruises is a hidden secret amongst savvy Australian cruisers. But even though its ships have never sailed in the region, Australians are now the third biggest nationality of guests onboard,” said Gavin Smith Regional Vice President, Asia-Pacific of RCL Cruises Limited. “It has long been our dream to bring an Azamara ship to Australian waters and our whole team is very excited to welcome Azamara Quest in 2015.”

The deployment of Azamara brand to the region completes a hat-trick for the Royal Caribbean family of brands, with Azamara joining sister cruise lines Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises as the third and final brand in its portfolio to have a ship deployed in the region.  Further itineraries in early 2016 will be released at a later date.

Known for its destination focus, Azamara Club itineraries feature longer stays and more overnights in port so guests can have a fuller experience of each destination, including its nightlife. The brand’s smaller ships are particularly well-suited to calling in the smaller, off-the-beaten-track ports of the Australian coastline.

Earlier this year, the cruise line introduced AzAmazing Evenings, a complimentary night tour on each voyage that provides guests with an exclusive and bespoke slice of a destination’s authentic culture and character. Azamara Club Cruises also expanded its complimentary beverage offerings – which now include wines, spirits, bottled water and barista coffees – and recently refurbished its ships, refreshing all public spaces and staterooms and adding a caviar & champagne bar as well as a new Chef’s Table venue.

“Azamara Club Cruises is delighted to announce our new year of destination-immersive voyages that are perfectly suited for sophisticated travellers,” said Larry Pimentel, president and CEO of Azamara Club Cruises. “As a hallmark of the Azamara experience, many voyages are timed with major events and celebrations, so guests can join in the festivities. We are particularly delighted to bring Azamara Quest to Australia in late 2015 and expand our distinctive experience to a new continent.”

Now open for sale, the 2015 program is an expansive, curated collection of culture-rich metropolises, charming colonial towns, stunning beaches and unsurpassed natural preserves in some of the world’s most intriguing destinations including South America, the West Indies, Europe, the Far East and – for the very first time – Australia. The full program is comprised of 52 voyages, ranging from five- to 18-night itineraries. Catering to up-market travellers, Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest will visit a total of 203 ports in 62 countries, destinations that have been made famous by myths and legends, history and beauty.

Azamara Quest is a mid-sized 694-guest ship including 347 suites and staterooms and a deck plan well suited to the needs of modern voyagers. Guests never feel crowded in the comfortable social spaces of the ships bars,

restaurants, lounges, Casino and Cabaret. Staterooms feature modern amenities, furnishings and European linens and there are a large number of staterooms with verandas. Azamara’s friendly ships are a wonderful place to call your home away from home.

P&O TAKES CRUISING TO THE EDGE

HOLLYWOOD’S LEADING STUNT ACTRESS LAUNCHES

THE LARGEST ADVENTURE PARK AT SEA

Australia’s leading cruise line

P&O Cruises has launched the most comprehensive adventure program ever to hit the high seas in spectacular style - with help from one of Hollywood’s most sought after stunt actresses.

Janene Carleton, who has performed high octane stunts for the likes of Angelina Jolie, Jessica Biel and Paula Patton, launched P&OEdge onboard Pacific Jewel, bringing her eight years of stunt double experience to showcase the range of adrenaline inducing activities now available as part of the program.

The P&OEdge program gives passengers the opportunity to climb, swing, race and jump their way to parts of the ship never seen before by guests. The 20 activities, which include high rope swings, laser tag, slack lines, Segway obstacle courses, flying fox lines, funnel climbs and many more have been specifically designed to make use of the ship’s existing architecture and turn Pacific Jewel into the largest floating adventure playground in the world.

Janene’s silver screen experience is also perfectly suited to test out the star of the new activities – The Titanic Moment – which will allow passengers to recreate the classic pose on the bow of the ship, made famous by Kate and Leo in James Cameron’s epic 1997 blockbuster.

Janene Carleton said: “My job as a stunt actress means I’m constantly pushing myself to the limit. I love new challenges - so to have the opportunity to bring some of these skills to test out the new P&OEdge program is hugely exciting for me.”

Head of P&O Cruises, Ann Sherry AO said: “We’re proud to offer passengers the most comprehensive range of onboard adventure activities ever seen in the cruising world. Whilst other cruise lines offer passengers a limited selection of activities, P&OEdge is the first to roll out a fully integrated program – something we’re confident our passengers will love. We’re even hoping Angelina may swing by to test out the new activities with her kids while she’s in Sydney!”

The program of activities has been carefully selected to ensure there’s something for everyone. Even budding stunt doubles will have the opportunity to test their skills in the kids activities section whilst mum and dad can choose from a selection of activities, ranging from the breathtaking to the downright thrilling.

John Sharpe of Pacific Adventures, who devised the program of P&OEdge activities said: “We’ve been creating adventure tours for intrepid travellers for years but bringing these activities on board a ship takes things to a whole new level.

“We’ve devised the activities to fit in with the existing features of the ship which adds a dynamic fourth dimension to the challenges.  Not only can you complete a rock climb up the funnel, you’ll also be working with the sway of the ship as it passes through the sea, meaning no two experiences will ever feel the same.”

P&OEdge is currently available on Pacific Jewel cruises, with the program to be rolled out across the P&O fleet in 2014. For more information, please visit edge.pocruises.com.au and www.pocruises.com.au .

P&OEdge will be rolled out across the fleet - Pacific Pearl and Pacific Dawn - in 2014.

P&OEdge is a collaboration with Pacific Adventures and P&O Cruises.  Founder and owner of Pacific Adventures, John Sharpe, has more than 14 years experience in the adventure tourism sector.  He is also the founder and owner of Riverlife Brisbane and Tangatours on Moreton Island.

With a local cruising history of 80 years, P&O Cruises is Australia's most loved cruise line. From the Pacific Islands, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand, to the best of Australia's coasts, P&O Cruises delivers some of the southern hemisphere's most incredible destinations.

Each of the fleet's three ships (Pacific Pearl, Pacific Dawn and Pacific Jewel) offers incredible and varied dining choices, entertainment from day into night and activities for all tastes and moods, and the largest shore tour program in the region.

Australian Cruising One Decimal Point From Being A Three Billion Dollar Industry

Cruising in Australia – the world’s fastest growing cruise market – is just one decimal point from becoming a three billion dollar industry.

Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia which operates or represents most of the cruise ships that sail to or from Australia, said the cruise industry’s long value chain had been vital in achieving a new milestone for direct and indirect economic activity.

Total economic activity generated by both domestic and international cruise operations confirmed cruising as an economic powerhouse that generated $2.9 billion** in economic opportunity in 2012-2013 – 18 per cent more than the $2.4 billion recorded in 2011-2012.

Ms Sherry said numerous sectors benefited from cruising including agriculture, hotel accommodation, restaurants, tourist attractions tour operators, taxi owners and transport operators.

At any one time, as many as 70 local suppliers could be involved in replenishing cruise ships with fresh food, beverages and other goods.

Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) said cruising has a flow-on effect across the economy with pre and post cruise passengers accounting for an average two to three nights in hotels in Sydney involving average spend of nearly $600 on accommodation, food and drink.

TAA NSW director Carol Giuseppi said: “Cruise ship business is vital for increasing investor confidence in the Sydney hotel market. It generates millions into the Sydney visitor economy, particularly sustaining hotel performance during the quieter trading months of December and January.”

Glandore Estate owner and chief wine maker, Duane Roy, whose winery in the NSW Hunter Valley supplies P&O Cruises’ ships, said: “Our relationship with P&O Cruises has been one of the foundation blocks that have helped us to continue to grow Glandore Estate over the last four years.

“Secure and mutually beneficial partnerships such as these provide the stability that allows us to continue to invest for the future with some degree of certainty, and our continuing relationship with the cruise industry has been particularly important over a time when the wine industry has not seen the highs of previous years.”

Ann Sherry said such a stunning increase in cruise-generated economic activity helped explain why businesses and regional ports wanted to be part of the fastest growing sector of Australian tourism.

"The latest evidence of cruising’s growing economic contributions has come as the industry prepares for another record cruise season with 34 vessels, most of them Carnival Australia ships, operating in Australian waters from the start of October to the end of April,” Ms Sherry said.

"These ships will make nearly 600 calls at Australian ports during the summer cruise season, around 30 more than for the 2012-2013 season.”      …2/

Ms Sherry said the new figures on cruising’s economic contribution showed New South Wales remained the biggest beneficiary again putting the spotlight on Sydney's port infrastructure challenges as well as the city’s importance as the cruise gateway to Australia and regional ports.

"The certainty of long-term shared access at Garden Island is vital if cruising is to continue to grow and generate the widespread ripple effect of commercial opportunities for hotel accommodation, restaurants, transport and tour operators," Ms Sherry said.

"It was encouraging to see support for the Garden Island solution across the political spectrum during the recent federal election. However, we are also pleased that the idea of moving naval assets from Garden Island is no longer on the table.

"We value our positive relationship with the Royal Australian Navy. The thought co-existing with real estate developers was not an exciting prospect, which would have also placed the existence of the Garden Island graving dock in jeopardy.

“The graving dock is a national asset and the only drydock in Australia that can accommodate large cruise ships.”

** The new data is included in Cruise Down Under’s Economic Impact Assessment of the Cruise Shipping Industry in Australia.

Carnival Australia’s Five Sydney-based Cruise Ships

in Colourful Salute to the Navy

Carnival Australia’s five Sydney-based cruise ships – P&O Cruises’ Pacific Jewel and Pacific Pearl, Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Spirit and Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess and Dawn Princess – will salute the Royal Australian Navy and its fleet centenary celebration in distinctive style.

PACIFIC JEWEL PENNANTS SALUTE NAVY

From now and throughout the Navy’s International Fleet Review period to October 11, each ship will fly pennant flags from their main mast denoting the number 100 to mark the Navy’s 100th anniversary celebration. You can watch the below interview with David Jones, Corporate Communications Manager of Carnival Australia.

https://youtu.be/mlKQrEy5vp8

On arrival and departure from Sydney, Pacific Jewel, Pacific Pearl, Carnival Spirit, Sea Princess and Dawn Princess will fly the special salute as the ships sail past the Navy’s home at Garden Island where ships from navies from around the world will assemble.

THIRD OFFICER BEN FLASH RAISES 100 FLAGS ON PACIFIC JEWEL CITY SKYLINE

“The International Fleet Review marking one hundred years since the arrival of the Royal Australian Navy fleet in Sydney in October 1913 is going to be one of the most spectacular celebrations ever staged on the harbour, a must-not-miss event,” Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry said.

“As a seafaring organisation with a shared maritime heritage, we are delighted that our ships home-ported in Sydney can offer the Royal Australian Navy a colourful salute in this very special way,” Ms Sherry said.

“The use of pennants to mark the Navy centenary is a simple but effective way to connect the era when the ships first sailed through Sydney Heads to the modern day activities of the Navy’s current fleet.”

* Voyager of the Seas’ second open-jaw itinerary departs 8 October 2014 from Hong Kong and sails for nine-nights to Singapore via Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Ho Chi Minh (Phu My), Vietnam; and Bangkok (Laem Chabang), Thailand, with fares starting from $899 per person for an interior stateroom.*

* Mariner of the Seas will offer two eight-night open-jaw sailings between Singapore and Shanghai in March and November 2014. Both sailings offer calls at Ho Chi Minh (Phu My), Vietnam; Hong Kong, China; and Xiamen, China, with fares starting from $939 per person for an interior statroom.*

Voyager of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas are among Royal Caribbean’s Voyager class of ships and feature iconic Royal Caribbean International amenities such as the rock-climbing wall, ice-skating rink, a nine-hole mini-golf course, full-size basketball and sports court, and the Royal Promenade – a boulevard that stretches nearly the length of the ship and flanked by restaurants, lounges and boutiques. Both ships also exclusively offer the DreamWorks Experience at sea. Guests can partake in parades, themed activities and other onboard events based on DreamWorks Animation’s popular feature-film characters, including Po of “Kung Fu Panda;” Shrek, Fiona and Puss In Boots of “Shrek;” and Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, and the Penguins from “Madagascar.” Each ship also is equipped with a 3-D movie theatre playing the latest DreamWorks Animation films.

Voyager of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas will spend the remainder of their (northern) summer season sailing from China (Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong) and Japan (Tokyo), offering itineraries from three- to seven-nights and visiting ports in Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

Australia Sails into Busiest Cruise Season on Record

Ports around Australia are set to reap the benefits from almost 600 visits by cruise ships over the coming months as the nation sails into its busiest summer cruise season yet.

New figures compiled by the national cruise body, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia, show that its member cruise lines will have a record 34 ships cruising Australian waters between October 1, 2013 and April 30, 2014, compared to 33 ships over the same period in 2012-13.

Between them, the ships will make 588 calls to Australian ports with many regional ports enjoying calls, from Eden in NSW to Geelong in Victoria, Robe in South Australia and Exmouth in Western Australia.

CLIA Australasia General Manager Brett Jardine said the 2013-14 season would also see an unprecedented 202 roundtrip cruises offered from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle, enabling more Australians than ever before to cruise from their doorstep.

Mr Jardine said the number of visits to Australian ports was great news for the economy.

“As cruising grows in popularity we’re seeing new opportunities open up for smaller ports along our coast to share in that growth and build their local tourism which is very exciting,” Mr Jardine said.

“It’s a win-win - passengers love the new destinations and different ports, while communities benefit from the economic value each ship brings, as passengers take in the sights and enjoy local tours and shopping. Each ship visit can inject up to $500,000 into a port, so they make an important contribution.

“Cruising is a year round industry for Australia now, but a busy summer season like this will be worth hundreds of millions of dollars to our economy,” Mr Jardine said.

The new figures come at the start of National Cruise Week, CLIA’s Australia-wide consumer promotion which will run from September 2-9. (www.nationalcruiseweek.com.au). CLIA’s international membership includes nearly 60 major cruise line brands, which represent approximately 98 per cent of the global cruise industry.

Mr Jardine said 15 different cruise ships from CLIA member fleets would operate roundtrip cruises from Australia over summer, while 19 other ships would visit during the season, delivering an ocean of choice to consumers.

The upcoming cruise season will see a rise in the number of Australian port calls from 559 in 2012-13, while roundtrip cruises will grow more than 10 per cent from 183 last season.

“This summer season will see a wide range of ships sailing our waters, from the impressive Queen Mary 2 and Voyager of the Seas to the boutique Silver Whisper and Seabourn Odyssey, so it will really demonstrate the many different styles of cruise holidays now available,” Mr Jardine said.

Among the ship visits are 17 maiden port calls by Seabourn Sojourn (visiting Eden, Burnie, Geelong, Kangaroo Island, Bunbury, Geraldton, Exmouth), APT’s MS Caledonian Sky (visits to Darwin, Port Essington, Wessel Islands, Geelong, Macquarie Island, Norfolk Island, Ashmore Reef) and P&O Cruises Pacific Pearl (visiting Robe, Port Lincoln and Kangaroo Island).

The record cruise season reinforces Australia’s position as one of the fastest growing cruise markets in the world. Official industry figures show the number of Australian cruise passengers has grown by an average 20 per cent a year over the past decade, with almost 700,000 Australians enjoying a cruise in 2012.

Sydney Royal Rendezvous and Gallipoli Visit Feature in Cunard’s 2015 World Voyage Program

Cunard Line has announced details of its 2015 world voyage program, featuring a Royal Rendezvous of Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria in Sydney and a special visit by Queen Elizabeth to the waters off Gallipoli to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the WWI campaign.

The program, which marks the cruise line’s 175th anniversary, also includes visits to Australia and New Zealand by all three of Cunard’s magnificent liners, as well as Queen Mary 2’s second Royal Circumnavigation of New Zealand.

On sale from September 6, the three world cruises will encompass 83 destinations in 46 countries, with Queen Mary 2 offering a 113-night voyage, Queen Elizabeth sailing on a 112-night circumnavigation and Queen Victoria offering a 103-night exploration of the Pacific.

The many highlights include a spectacular meeting of Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria on Sydney Harbour for the first time. The Royal Rendezvous is planned for March 12, 2015, before Queen Mary 2 departs the city on her 13-night circumnavigation of New Zealand.

Another special note for Australians and New Zealanders will be Queen Elizabeth’s cruise through the waters off the Gallipoli Peninsula on April 24, after transiting the Suez Canal.

The new program also includes Queen Mary 2’s maiden call to Sanya in China on February 19 to ring in the Chinese New Year, as well as a Royal Rendezvous of all three Queens in Southampton on May 3 at the end of their world cruises.

Queen-Mary2 and QE2

In Australia, Queen Elizabeth will make her maiden call to Yorkey’s Knob off Cairns on March 9, while across the Tasman Queen Victoria will make her first call to Akaroa on March 17. Other maiden calls for Queen Victoria include Bora Bora in French Polynesiai, Puerto Limon in Costa Rica, Rarotonga in the Cook Islands and San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua.  Queen Mary 2’s itinerary will also feature her first visits to Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei, Bitung in Indonesia and Sihanoukville in Cambodia.

The program is a fitting celebration of Cunard’s 175th anniversary and its leadership in world cruises. Cunard invented world cruising in 1922 when Laconia set off on the first ever circumnavigation by a passenger ship. The cruise line has since undertaken more world voyages than any other.

“We are the world cruise experts having started this tradition over 90 years ago,” Cunard Line Managing Director and President Peter Shanks said. “No other ships are welcomed around the world as warmly as the Cunard fleet. Our ships’ arrivals into port attract well-wishers in their thousands, on the water and ashore – it’s part of the magic of the Cunard experience.”

Cruises featured in the new 2015 program include:

  • Queen Mary 2’s Royal Circumnavigation of New Zealand, departing Sydney March 12 and visiting Milford Sound, Akaroa, Wellington, Auckland and Bay of Islands. Fares start from $3349* per person double occupancy.
  • 61 nights on Queen Elizabeth sailing from Sydney to Southampton on March 3, including the liner’s visit to the waters of Gallipoli. Fares start from $15,749* per person double occupancy.
  • 27 nights on Queen Victoria, sailing from Sydney to Los Angeles and embarking on March 11 before the meeting with Queen Mary 2. Fares start from $7299* per person double occupancy.

CARNIVAL LEGEND TO RECEIVE $ 17m UPGRADE.

Posted by on in Cruising News

Carnival Cruise Lines officially confirmed the investment it’s making to ensure Carnival Legend is right for the Australasian market, with dry dock upgrades worth US$17 million.

You can now watch the Carnival Legend upgrades and new features in the Link below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ps_5u-V1MQ&feature=player_detailpage

Confidence in Carnival Legend’s arrival was cemented with the first customer booking just hours after sales opened for the ships’ maiden voyage from Sydney.  With the arrival of the new ship, Carnival Cruise Lines has proved its commitment to Aussie and Kiwi cruisers, operating seasonally at double capacity from 2014.

Carnival Cruise Lines, the world’s largest cruise line, hand-picked the most popular features of its 24-strong fleet for the upgrades to Carnival Legend. The features were selected and tailored based on insights from over 80,000 Aussie and Kiwi cruisers garnered from sister ship, Carnival Spirit, which will be celebrating her first anniversary in October.

Highlights of the upgrades include a southern hemisphere first – Carnival Cruise Lines’ own RedFrog Pub. Knowing the pub is a cornerstone of Aussie culture, this laid-back yet lively space will be a popular spot, complete with foosball and live music; pre-requisites for any great pub.

Responding to Australasians’ love of the outdoors and adventure, Carnival Legend will receive the popular Green Thunder waterslide, synonymous with Carnival Cruise Lines after famously gracing Carnival Spirit’s top deck in 2012.  Designed and built specifically for Australasians, Green Thunder is the steepest and fastest waterslide at sea, set inside Carnival Waterworks, a splash zone also featuring a giant tipping bucket and racing slides.

With quality Asian cuisine being so popular throughout Australia, Carnival Legend will ensure guests don’t suffer from wasabi withdrawals with the addition of Bonsai Sushi, a Japanese-inspired sanctuary featuring new and classic favourites including traditional sushi, sake and sashimi.

For the sweet-tooths, Cherry on Top is a well-stocked ‘candy-and-more-store’ where guests can indulge on confectionary favourites and collect tasty take-home souvenirs.

Carnival Cruise Lines Vice President for Australia and New Zealand, Jennifer Vandekreeke commented: “The fact that we’ll be operating on double capacity next year with Carnival Spirit and Carnival Legend is undoubtedly due to the ongoing support of our valued travel agents.”

Like her sister ship Carnival Spirit, Carnival Legend will offer guests the same wide open spaces, child-free Serenity retreat, 16 bars and lounges and upgraded fitness centre. Carnival Legend will receive some of the most popular Carnival Spirit ‘Aussifications’ including no tipping, Australian power points, new menu offerings and an upgrade to the onboard coffee to ensure a perfectly brewed blend.

Agents can now book Carnival Legend holidays in POLAR. Carnival Legend will set sail on her first deployment in September 2014.

Further information about Carnival Legend’s dry dock upgrades will be shared over the coming months.

Cruise travellers are about to experience the many delights of Western Australia's beautiful Margaret River region as P&O Cruises becomes the first cruise operator to sail there.

With its magnificent scenery, wineries, boutique breweries, chocolate factories and wildlife, the region will be a major drawcard in P&O Cruises’ 2015 cruise program from Fremantle.

Adding another exciting dimension to the Margaret River cruises, passengers will come ashore at Busselton’s historic jetty -- at 1.8km, the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.

Located on the shore of picturesque Geographe Bay, Busselton is the gateway to the Margaret River region.

In announcing the launch of Margaret River cruising, Tammy Marshall, P&O Cruises Senior Vice President, said the region and the line’s short break cruise offering made for a perfect combination.

"P&O Cruises’ short break cruises are growing in popularity and Margaret River, with all of its attractions, is perfectly positioned geographically for our three-night cruises from Fremantle," Ms Marshall said.

"Sailing to the region by cruise ship is a unique way to arrive in total relaxation without the usual three and a half hour drive there and back from Perth.

"West Australians are going to love this three night getaway, but I’m sure many interstate visitors will also be just as keen to make sailing to Margaret River a highlight of an extended holiday in the west.”

Ms Marshall thanked Busselton City Council and its Mayor Ian Stubbs for their strong support in enabling cruising to the area to become a reality.

“We’re very excited to welcome P&O Cruises to the City of Busselton. Busselton is a well-established tourist destination rich in history, culture and natural beauty. Arriving at the iconic Busselton Jetty against the pristine blue waters of Geographe Bay, few if any could fail to be impressed” said Mayor Stubbs.Region

P&O Cruises is now planning for Pacific Jewel to call at Busselton during two cruises in April and May 2015.

The rapid expansion of Princess Cruises into Asia is expected to fuel further growth from the Australian market with a new Australian head appointed to “lead the charge”.

Stuart Allison will take up the role of vice president Australia in mid-October, moving over from his current position as director of market planning and revenue management at P&O Cruises.

Speaking to media at the Carnival Partnership Summit aboard P&O’s Pacific Pearl, executive vice president Jan Swartz highlighted the cruise line’s “unprecedented” expansion across Asia with the opening of 11 local offices – two in Japan, five in China with additional offices in Taiwan, Singapore, Korea and Hong Kong.

“This can only benefit Australia because it brings a wide array of new product to the market,” she said.

The 17 Asian itineraries include journeys ranging between three and 11 days in length in Japan, China and across South East Asia with many of the itineraries “never done before”.

“Given that those are close to Australia, it affords the Australian cruise market some unique opportunities for travel agents to grow their business and for consumers to explore that part of the world,” Swartz said.

Travellers introduced to cruise through domestic product, are now starting to look further afield, with improving air connectivity to Asia an additional incentive to head in that direction.

“As a consequence, we expect great growth from this market.”

CARNIVAL SETS OUT AMBITIOUS CRUISE TARGET !

Posted by on in Cruising News

Carnival Australia is seeking to more than triple cruise penetration in the Australian market by 2030, as the local cruise industry looks set to smash previous targets four years early.

The aim of reaching one million passengers per year by 2020 will instead be achieved by 2016 according to forecasts, with more than 700,000 Australians taking to the seas last year. The cruise industry is now worth more than  $1 billion to the national economy.

“This is a phenomenal achievement when you think about where we were as an industry just five years ago,” Carnival Australia boss Ann Sherry told delegates at the Carnival Partnership Summit on board P&O Cruises's Pacific Pearl at the weekend.

ann sherry

“Five years ago nobody really believed Australia would develop a vibrant cruise industry in the way that it has.”

The faster than expected growth has prompted Sherry to devise a new challenge for the sector.

“Why not a market penetration of 10%? It’s never been done anywhere but nowhere has grown the market as fast as we have.”

She described Australians as “urbanised seahuggers” with the majority of the population living within easy reach of the ocean.

The propensity of Australians to travel also puts the ambitious target within reach, according to Sherry.

However, improved infrastructure will be essential to enable such meteoric growth, with "cracking" Garden Island the key to delivering growth from Sydney.

But Sherry insisted the struggle to agree better facilities for the cruise industry is now gathering momentum with both political parties have “privately” revealing that they are supportive of a long-term solution at Garden Island.

The navy is also becoming a “bit more flexible” over shared use of the facility, with the completion of an ongoing review into the navy’s Australian operations expected to deliver more certainty.

A growing emphasis on Asia will also help to boost bookings from the Australian market, with Sherry promising a “stronger vertical movement” of ships to Asia, providing a greater range of itineraries and destinations across all seasons.

P&O HOMES IN ON FIRST TIME CRUISERS !

Posted by on in Cruising News

P&O Cruises is ramping up its efforts to capture the new to cruise market with new marketing tools for agents and an expanded range of experience-based products in its plan.

Speaking at the Carnival Partnership Summit aboard Pacific Pearl, senior vice president Tammy Marshall revealed that the “cruise rookie” market is expected to double over the next five years with 75% of surveyed agents citing cruise as a “significant opportunity”.

MARSHALL TAMMY

“The perception of cruising is changing – it’s not just for the older market,” she said.

As a result, the cruise line is also broadening the range of experiences on offer to grow its appeal to additional segments of the market, identifying experience as “the new black”.

In terms of onboard product, that will include additional family activities such as laser tag and a new partnership with Lego along with a new adventure program called Edge which will include a flying fox, funnel climbs, a segway and a new Titanic experience.

The program will debut on Pacific Jewel when the vessel emerges from its dry dock, currently underway.

Incorporating major events such as the Melbourne Cup into its program represents part of a broader push along with the expansion of its range of short breaks. The shorter itineraries offer first time cruisers the opportunity to sample cruising before committing to a longer voyage.

A new Margaret River three-night itinerary operated by Pacific Jewel will depart Fremantle and call at Busselton with two departures in April and May 2015.

“We’re focusing on offering unique experiences,” Marshall said. "Sailing to the region by cruise ship is a unique way to arrive in total relaxation without the usual three and a half drive there and back from Perth."

To get the message across, P&O has also developed a new web marketing program to assist agents in attracting first time cruisers.

The new First Mate program, to be rolled out via www.myccs.com.au, will include a local online advertising tool, a branded flyer “wizard”, a developer for electronic direct mailings and an online financial reporting tool.

Cruise sales will also be crucial for winning new-to-cruise business, Marshall added as she urged agents to take advantage of its next selection of offers to take place between September 16 and 22.
