ENTERTAINMENT FEAST AWAITS PNG CRUISE GUESTS.

Entertainment Feast Awaits PNG Cruise Guests

Passengers cruising to Papua New Guinea on upcoming P&O Cruises’ sailings can look forward to plenty of local culture in the entertainment offerings. Sture Myrmell, Vice President Hotel Operation for Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises, said guests on Pacific Pearl’s current cruise to PNG would be treated to some wonderful presentations, where guest lecturers and guest entertainers were one and the same.  Special guest presenters Dobi and Bemu Kidu are well known in PNG as the daughters of Dame Carol Kidu, the only female member of the PNG Parliament from 2002 to 2012 and Sir Buri Kidu, the first indigenous Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea.  As guest lecturer, Dobi will give presentations on ‘Learning to Live in Many Worlds’ and ‘Body Art in PNG’.

Bemu is a wonderful vocalist and dancer who will be assisting in the lectures. Both sisters will perform together in a series of onboard events including a cultural performance in the Marquee theatre, an acoustic ‘pop up’ performance in the Atrium and cultural dance classes for passengers. The pair have even made special lap laps (waistcloths) for the female cruise guests.  Melanesian princess and Voice contestant Samantha Clark will return to Pacific Dawn on September 10 along with guest lecturer Dr Ceridwen Spark.  A recognised PNG expert, Dr Spark is a research fellow in the State, Society and Governance in Melanesia Program at the Australian National University.  She recently received AusAID funding for the Pawa Meri Project which involved making six films about leading women in PNG, to be released across the Pacific and Oceania and is also editor of the recently released collection, Australians in PNG: 1960-1975.  “Our PNG lecturer and entertainment schedule is very strong with plenty of interesting and experienced lecturers and performers participating in future voyages,” Mr Myrmell said.
