Royal Caribbean International Statement Concerning Yesterday’s Issue.

While the majority of this has been written by Royal Caribbean International themselves the last three paragraphs which have been written by myself are equally important to note.

We are truly sorry to have upset guests who are affected by the change of date of Ovation of the Seas’ repositioning cruise on 23 January 2017. It was not our intention to disappoint our guests booked on this cruise and it was certainly not a decision we took lightly. We did however want to make everyone aware of these changes as soon as possible.

We are now quickly finalising the new itineraries and we will shortly be contacting everyone booked on this cruise - either through their travel agent or directly - to discuss cruise and flight arrangements. We apologise to those guests who have not heard directly from us, as we do not have the contact details for the majority of guests who booked through travel agents.

We expect all guests’ communications to be completed in the next two weeks. Affected guests will have first choice to re-book any of the new sailings on Ovation of the Seas, including the revised repositioning cruise one month later, or receive a full refund of any deposits paid.

2 Logo Royal Caribbean

We can also confirm that we will assist all guests with flight and hotel change fees for the affected sailing. However, we urge guests not to make any changes until we contact them with the new itinerary details.

In regards to the above I have also been told that each and individual case for every guest that has been affected by what has happened will be dealt with on a case by case basis. It just depends on the person or persons who have booked and what there issues might be.

Royal Caribbean International is certainly not ignoring any one nor are they just sweeping it under the carpet, as per what some people might think. All that I would ask is for people to be patient and I know that might be hard for some depending on your situation.

But in the end this will be resolved, hopefully to what each individual party and Royal Caribbean International come to terms with for a mutual beneficial result for everyone involved.

Princess Cruises Ups The Ante With Two New Builds !

Princess Cruises has announced that it has reached an agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri S.p.A. to build two new ships, entering into service in 2019 and 2020.

The contract was signed on Saturday (April 2) at a ceremony at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera attended by Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Graziano Delrio, Carnival Corporation Chairman Micky Arison, Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald,  Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono and Stein Kruse, CEO of Holland America Group, which includes Princess Cruises.

“We are incredibly proud and excited to add two new ships to our already formidable fleet,” Princess Cruises Vice President Australia & New Zealand Stuart Allison said.

“With this new ship commitment, Princess Cruises will continue to grow and expand globally as the world’s destination leader in premium cruising.”

The unnamed 143,700-tonne, 3560-passenger ships will be the brand’s fourth and fifth Royal-class vessels, featuring an evolution of the successful design platform used on Royal Princess, Regal Princess and the new Majestic Princess coming in 2017.

The new Princess ships will include the signature elements that have become synonymous with the brand’s best-in-class guest experience featuring a soaring central atrium, multiple dining, entertainment and retail venues; an outdoor theatre experience; and 80 per cent of all staterooms with balconies. The ships will also include new innovations to enhance the guest experience even further.

Specific features and amenities for the ships, along with deployment details, will be revealed in the near future.

The finalisation of the contract follows the announcement late last year of a memorandum of agreement between Princess Cruises’ parent company, Carnival Corporation & plc and Fincantieri for five new ships including the Princess Cruises’ new builds. As the world’s largest travel and leisure company, Carnival Corporation has an existing fleet of 100 cruise ships and a total of 16 new ships scheduled for delivery between 2016 and 2020.

Ovation Of The Seas Set To Make Her Mark In The Australian Cruising Market, With Additional Sailings !

Today Royal Caribbean International made a double announcement regarding Australia’s very first new-build cruise ship, the ground-breaking US$1 billion Ovation of the Seas.

Ovation of the Seas Conveyance

The company revealed that the newest, biggest and most technologically advanced ship for Australia will now extend her maiden season down under with four extra cruises during this forthcoming summer 2016/17 season.   In addition, it was confirmed that Ovation of the Seas will return for a second season in summer 2017/18 due to the extraordinary demand for the ship from Australians.  Together these new programs will add almost 60,000 new beds to the local cruise market.

Final deployment details for both new programs will be released later in April, however guests who would like to be the first to know itinerary details and receive exclusive notice of the on-sale date are encouraged to register their interest here: www.ovationoftheseas.com.au/newsletteR

“The level of interest for Ovation of the Seas has exceeded all of our expectations; we’re currently over 90 per cent sold for next summer’s sailings,” said Adam Armstrong, managing director, Royal Caribbean Australasia.  “She is a true game-changer and such was the high demand for the ship that we’ve been able to secure four extra cruises from Sydney, which will extend the season into late February 2017.

ovation 22

“This extension of her maiden season – plus her subsequent return in summer 2017/18 – reaffirms Australia’s position as one of the most significant cruising markets in the world and Royal Caribbean’s position as Sydney’s leading cruise line,” Armstrong continued.

“We are delivering Australians the most modern style of cruising from their doorstep – a style they previously had to travel overseas for.  Australia has asked for more and we will deliver; four more cruises, a return at the end of 2017, and more opportunities to experience a brand new era of cruising on Ovation of the Seas, purpose-built for the Asia Pacific market,” Armstrong concluded.

ovation 23

When she debuts in April, Ovation of the Seas will claim the title of equal third largest cruise ship in the world – eclipsed only by Royal Caribbean’s twin ships Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas. She is the third ship in the ground-breaking Quantum Class and brings a set of first-at-sea experiences to Australia including  Ripcord by iFLY, a heart-pounding skydiving experience; the North Star glass viewing pod, a stunning new way to see the world from 90 metres above sea level;  cutting-edge venues that change from day to night, including SeaPlex, the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex at sea with bumper cars, a circus school and more; Two70 an immersive, multimedia entertainment venue complete with dancing Roboscreens; and the robotic Bionic Bar, where robots stir and shake your drinks.

Ovation has reimagined dining on a cruise ship with a choice of 18 unique restaurant concepts, including Jamie’s Italian, Michael’s Genuine Pub, the enchanting Wonderland and Royal Caribbean favourites like Chops Grille steakhouse and Izumi Japanese.

ovation 31

Technology has been amped up with high speed internet offering the fastest bandwidth at sea so guests can connect and stream as quickly as they would onshore, while the Royal iQ app makes keeping track of your onboard schedule simple with all bookings and cruise details stored and updated automatically.

Ovation of the Seas is nearing completion and will launch later this month, sailing from Southampton for a short sojourn in Europe before repositioning via Dubai and Singapore on a 52-day “Global Odyssey” to arrive in Beijing (Tianjin) for her inaugural China season commencing 24 June 2016. On 30 November 2016, she will set sail on a 15-night Singapore to Sydney voyage via Fremantle, Adelaide and Hobart, repositioning to her new home down under for her maiden Australian season in December.

ovation 3

Guests who are booked on the 23 January 2017 repositioning cruise from Sydney to Singapore will be contacted directly and offered first choice of sailings to rebook, including the revised repositioning itinerary scheduled for four weeks later.

Cruising To Fraser Isand Made More Accessible, As P&O Cruises Become The Regional Destination Experts.

In a meticulously planned operation that has been several years in the making, P&O Cruises' Pacific Aria became the largest ship to navigate the Great Sandy Strait, with her call to Fraser Island opening up the World Heritage-listed destination to cruise tourism.

At high tide yesterday morning, the 55,820-tonne Pacific Aria entered the tidal strait to the west of Fraser Island, slowly cruising through the Great Sandy Strait – a succession of sheltered bays and sand flats – before anchoring off the island’s Kingfisher Bay Resort about 7am.

P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell said the cruise line had wanted to visit Fraser Island for some time, but had only been able to introduce cruises to the world’s largest sand island following the addition of two mid-sized ships – Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden – to its fleet late last year.

“Pacific Aria’s historic visit has been a feat of modern navigation. Our team worked closely with local authorities including Maritime Safety Queensland, the Gladstone Regional Harbour Master and the Australian Hydrographic Service to update shipping charts in the strait and carefully plan cruise calls around high tides,” Mr Myrmell said.

Pacific Aria anchored at Fraser Island Mark Fitz Photography markfitz

P&O also recruited former harbour master Captain Mike Lutze, the only experienced Fraser Island pilot, for the maiden call and will continue working with him to train Australian Reef Pilots to ensure the viability of future cruise visits to the island.

The maiden Fraser Island call was part of a four-night roundtrip cruise which departed Brisbane on April 1. Pacific Eden will make the next Fraser Island call on December 12 as part of a four-night roundtrip cruise from Sydney departing on December 10, 2016, and priced from $499* per person quad share.

A further five Fraser Island calls are scheduled for 2017.

Mr Myrmell said Fraser Island was one of 15 regional destinations added to P&O itineraries in recent years as a result of the cruise line’s fleet expansion and the increase in short break cruises.

“As P&O expands, we’re thrilled to be leading the way in introducing more of Australia to cruising, especially Fraser Island, which boasts some of the world's most magnificent scenery, wildlife and visitor experiences. It’s a very exciting time for cruise tourism in Australia with passenger numbers continuing to surge and it’s great to be able to share the economic benefits of this growth with communities around the nation,” Mr Myrmell said.

The cruise line partnered with the island’s Kingfisher Bay Resort to offer its guests the ultimate Fraser Island experience. As well as enjoying the resort’s facilities, guests participated in a range of activities including bush tucker tasting, a visit to the Central Station rainforest and crystal clear Lake McKenzie, mangrove walking tours and beach Segway rides.

Queensland is home to more cruise destinations than any other state in Australia, with P&O ships sailing to 10 ports within the State. In recent years P&O has opened up new Queensland ports including Mooloolaba and Moreton Island, followed by Gladstone last month and now Fraser Island.

According to industry figures, Queensland is the second biggest source market for Australian cruisers with nearly 240,000 Queenslanders cruising in 2014, an increase of 21 per cent on the previous year.

It's Full Steam Ahead For P&O Cruises Australia's New Build.

P&O Cruises Australia has marked a major milestone in the creation of its first new ship, finalising its contract with shipbuilder Fincantieri in Italy on the weekend.

Launching in 2019, the 135,500-tonne vessel will be the first cruise ship built specifically for the Australian and New Zealand market.

The largest ship to join P&O Cruises’ fleet, the new build will carry more than 4200 guests, offering double the capacity of the biggest cruise vessel currently homeporting year round in this market.

P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell said the finalisation of the contract for the new build heralded a new chapter for cruising in Australia.

“This is a very proud moment for P&O and a significant step forward in our continued growth in this market,” Mr Myrmell said.

“Our new build will be a ship like no other, reflecting the tastes of modern Australia and building on the ongoing evolution of P&O Cruises’ product in recent years. We are incredibly excited to be creating this ship and can’t wait to reveal details over the months ahead.”

Formalising of contracts for building of new PO Cruises ship

Measuring 323 metres in length and with 2100 guest rooms, the new ship will be based year round in Australia, and will offer itineraries from three to 10 days duration.

The finalisation of the contract follows the announcement late last year of a memorandum of agreement between P&O’s parent company, Carnival Corporation & plc and Fincantieri for five new ships including P&O Cruises’ new build. As the world’s largest travel and leisure company, Carnival Corporation has an existing fleet of 100 cruise ships and a total of 16 new ships scheduled for delivery between 2016 and 2020.

The creation of Australia’s first new build forms part of the ongoing expansion of P&O Cruises Australia, which saw the addition of two ships – Pacific Eden and Pacific Aria – last year, taking the present fleet to five ships.

P&O will also take delivery of another ship, the refurbished 2000-guest Pacific Explorer, in May next year, while the smaller 1600-guest Pacific Pearl will depart the fleet in April.

“With an average annual 20 per cent growth in passenger numbers over the past decade, Australia is one of the fastest growing cruise markets in the world.  Our expansion will not only help meet surging demand, it will also drive future growth by enticing more Australians to holiday at sea,” Mr Myrmell said.

The contract was signed on Saturday at a ceremony at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera attended by Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Graziano Delrio, Carnival Corporation Chairman Micky Arison, Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald,  Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono and Stein Kruse, CEO of Holland America Group, which includes P&O Cruises Australia.

Announcing details of its new 2018 World Voyages program, which goes on sale on April 13, Cunard said overwhelming demand for Queen Mary 2’s shorter cruises from local ports in 2017 had prompted it to schedule more roundtrip cruises from Australia in 2018 as part of the liner’s world cruise itinerary.

In all, Australian ports will enjoy 14 calls from Queen Mary 2 and her younger sister Queen Elizabeth during the ships’ 2018 world voyages.

Busselton in Western Australia and Kangaroo Island are set to welcome their second visits from Queen Mary 2, following the liner’s scheduled maiden calls to both ports next year, while Queen Elizabeth will make an encore visit to Newcastle on March 1, 2018 following her successful maiden visit there earlier this year.

Queen Mary 2’s New Zealand circumnavigation will also see her making her maiden calls to Dunedin on the South Island and Tauranga on the North Island as part of a 13-night round trip cruise from Sydney.  Priced from $3809 per person double occupancy, the cruise will depart Sydney on February 24, 2018, and enjoy scenic cruising through the stunning Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and Dusky Sound in Fiordland National Park before the liner continues on her voyage around New Zelaand visiting Dunedin, Akaroa, Wellington, Tauranga, Auckland and Bay of Islands.

Meanwhile, fares for Queen Mary 2’s four-night cruise to Kangaroo Island, departing Melbourne on February 18, 2018, are priced from $1229* per person double occupancy.

During her extended season in Australian waters, Queen Mary 2, which will be remastered in an extensive two-month refit this year, will also call at Fremantle (February 12), Busselton (February 13), Adelaide (February 16), Brisbane (March 11), the Whitsundays (March 13) and Darwin (March 17) before heading north through Asia.

Her 120-night world voyage will visit 45 ports across 23 countries with prices for the full east-west world voyage, which departs Southampton in the United Kingdom on January 10, 2018, priced from $35,099 per person double occupancy. Shorter sectors are also available with a 14-night cruise from Sydney to Singapore priced from $4309* per person double occupancy.

Queen Elizabeth will also visit Australia and New Zealand as part of a classic western circumnavigation of the globe featuring a Panama Canal transit and visits to 39 ports in 25 countries. During her voyage Queen Elizabeth will make eight maiden calls including her first visits to Moorea in French Polynesia, Ocho Rios in Jamaica and Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala.

Fares for Queen Elizabeth’s full 122-night world voyage start from $35,829 per person double occupancy, while a 15-night cruise from Sydney to Osaka, including calls to Newcastle, Brisbane, Rabaul in Papua New Guinea and Okinawa in Japan, is priced from $4629 per person double occupancy.

The 2018 program also includes an exciting new voyage concept for Cunard – an exotic 75-night circumnavigation of South America by Queen Victoria, including calls to the Caribbean, Central America and transits of the Panama Canal, Beagle Channel and the Magellan Straits.

Departing Southampton on January 7, 2018, the cruise is priced from $17,419* per person double occupancy for the full 75 nights. Shorter sectors are also available including a 19-night cruise from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to Valparaiso (for Santiago) with calls to ports in Uruguay, Argentina and Chile, priced from $4719* per person double occupancy.

“Places to Sea” Mobile Experience

Princess Cruises has launched a new swipe-to-like experience called “Places to Sea” to help travellers find the right cruise.

Designed for Android and iOS smartphones, the new mobile tool is a first for the cruise industry.

Places to Sea takes users on a visual journey through exotic destinations, adventurous activities and culinary experiences to match them with a travel personality and offer cruise destination recommendations.

Users simply swipe (right to like or left to pass) through a series of stunning travel-related images that include everything from culinary delights to bucket-list destinations and adventurous excursions, before being assigned one of five different travel personalities based on their preferences.

So whether the user is an “adventurer,” “culturist,” “naturalist,” or a “foodie,” Princess Cruises will match a cruise destination and various cruise itineraries.

Princess Cruises Vice President Australia & New Zealand Stuart Allison said it was easy for many travellers researching cruises to get overwhelmed with so many options and choices.

PrincessSeaLARGE1

“Our new Places to Sea experience guides the process and matches the ideal trip with a person’s personality,” Mr Allison said.

“The swipe technology is a trend that plays well in the travel space. It’s easy to use and turns the travel planning process into a game that introduces unexpected places and experiences that may not have been top of mind for the consumer.”

Mr Allison said the Places to Sea experience was all about discovery and was a great resource for any travel lover or those who are curious about cruising. Family and friends can easily share their results to figure out which cruise destination best fits their group.

Gladstone Sets Sights On Being The Newest Cruising Destination, As P&O Cruises’ Pacific Dawn Arrives In Style !

P&O Cruises’ Pacific Dawn has officially put Gladstone on the cruising map with the 70,000-tonne superliner today making history as the first cruise ship to visit the Central Queensland port.

The call is the first of seven visits to Gladstone by Pacific Dawn and her sister ships Pacific Jewel and Pacific Eden this year, with the cruise line set to return to the city in 2017 on six occasions.

The 2000-guest Pacific Dawn, which visited Gladstone as part of a four-night Queensland Sea Break cruise, was welcomed by the local community during a civic ceremony and presentation of the keys to the city.

P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell thanked Gladstone Regional Council and the local community for extending such an enthusiastic and warm welcome to Pacific Dawn’s passengers and crew.

“We know from experience that our passengers best remember destinations by the warmth of the community welcome and Gladstone has certainly lived up to its reputation as a friendly city,” Mr Myrmell said.

“Gladstone has so much to offer as a cruise destination. Australians are fascinated by the port’s nation-building industrial development, along with the beauty of the region as the gateway to the southern reaches of the Great Barrier Reef.

“P&O Cruises’ fleet expansion has offered the flexibility to cruise to more regional destinations such as Gladstone following the addition of Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden.”

Gladstone Mayor, Cr Gail Sellers, said Gladstone was very excited about the first arrivals by P&O Cruises’ ships, with Pacific Dawn’s visit today followed by Pacific Jewel on March 20, beginning a series of calls this year and next.

Locals greet Pacific Dawn on maiden visit to Gladstone

“The cruise ships will be a great addition to the tourism industry in the Gladstone region. I join with our community in welcoming these impressive vessels along with the thousands of passengers that will be coming into our beautiful region,” said Cr Sellers.

While in Gladstone passengers will have the opportunity to visit attractions that include:

* Cruising past Port Curtis Harbour highlights with expert commentary describing the many exciting aspects including major industry and islands in Gladstone’s enormous and busy natural harbour

* Discovering Quoin Island Retreat, home to Central Queensland’s Turtle Rehabilitation Centre nestled within Gladstone Harbour which will include opportunities for personal encounters with Australian wildlife featuring turtles, wombats, pretty face wallabies, snakes, lizards and sugar gliders

* Seeing the sights of Gladstone and the beautiful Southern Great Barrier Reef in style on a 35-minute scenic flight to Heron Island before enjoying a snorkel on the fringing reefs and exploring the tropical island.

Experiencing the Feast on East Market which showcases local art, handmade crafts and enticing cuisine, set in the beautiful East Shores Precinct within walking distance from the ship.

Gladstone is one of a number of new cruise destinations in Queensland, which has the distinction of having more cruise destinations than any other state in Australia.

P&O Cruises has added Moreton Island, Mooloolaba, Hamilton Island and Fraser Island to its cruise itineraries. Later this year, Cairns will become the first regional port in Queensland to homeport a P&O ship.

P&O Cruises Australia Pacific Peal Set To Cruise Into The Sunset.

P&O Cruises Australia today announced a commercial arrangement has been reached to transfer Pacific Pearl from its fleet as part of an ongoing fleet expansion and renewal program.

The popular ship will be farewelled from the fleet in April 2017.  By then, Pacific Pearl will have completed 294 separate cruises under the P&O Cruises’ banner and will have carried more than half a million passengers over a period of more than five years’ service.

IMG 20140502 232747

P&O Cruises Australia President Sture Myrmell said Pacific Pearl had become a firm favourite with many guests in Australia and New Zealand during the 63,786-tonne superliner’s time with the fleet.

However, the commercial transfer of the 1800-passenger ship is part of an unprecedented fleet renewal program for P&O Cruises, with the addition of Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden at the end of last year and Pacific Explorer due to join the fleet next year.

PacPearl Stern

At the same time, P&O Cruises is making history in becoming the first cruise line to build a new ship specifically for the Australian market with the ‘newbuild’ to be delivered in 2019.

After her P&O Cruises launch in December 2010, Pacific Pearl played a game-changing part in becoming New Zealand’s first superliner, beginning with an eight-night cruise from Auckland to the South Pacific.

FB IMG 1439628834090

“In becoming a much loved passenger favourite, Pacific Pearl made a huge contribution to building the cruise category in the region particularly in New Zealand, introducing thousands of holidaymakers to the joys of cruising,” Mr Myrmell said.

“In addition to contributing to the growth of cruising in Australia, Pacific Pearl played a big part in growing the New Zealand season by more than 20 per cent over the past four years. This year, P&O Cruises is sailing from Auckland for a record 140 days.

FB IMG 1439628838958

“P&O Cruises remains the only cruise line to homeport from New Zealand and we are committed to the market. Following Pacific Pearl’s farewell in 2017, Pacific Jewel will become New Zealand’s ship and will sail from Auckland for two months from September 1 offering fantastic holidays to the Pacific Islands before returning again in 2018.”

Mr Myrmell said Pacific Pearl’s departure was part of the ongoing evolution of the P&O Cruises’ brand.

FB IMG 1439628863509

“Farewelling Pacific Pearl is a natural progression in which we are increasing the size of the fleet while redefining modern cruising in this part of the world. This is a very exciting time for P&O Cruises and our guests and is part of our long-term commitment to grow the cruise market.”

Pacific Pearl’s last New Zealand cruise – a four night cruise to the Bay of Islands – will depart Auckland on March 23, 2017. Her final P&O Cruises voyage will be a 16-day cruise to Singapore departing Auckland on March 27, 2017, which will provide an opportunity for Pacific Pearl's many fans to give her a celebratory farewell from the fleet.

With more than a year to go before Pacific Pearl exits the fleet, there are relatively few guests whose forward bookings will be subject to change and P&O will be assisting them to make alternative arrangements, including their choice of:

* Rebooking on an equivalent or near equivalent cruise on another P&O Cruises Australia ship

* Offering a choice of alternative cruises on other ships in the P&O Cruises Australia fleet where a near equivalent match is not possible

* Providing a full refund to guests for whom no alternative cruise choice is suitable (any guest whose cruise is cancelled can choose to obtain a full refund).

Pacific Pearl will be transferred to a new fleet in April 2017. At their request, details of the new operators will remain confidential.
