Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry has congratulated the Royal Australian Navy on today’s commissioning of its new amphibious vessel HMAS Canberra.

As the Navy’s largest ship was commissioned with all due pomp and ceremony, P&O Cruises’ Pacific Dawn was a near neighbour as the cruise ship undergoes a scheduled dry dock and refurbishment at Garden Island.

“In addition to saluting the Royal Australian Navy on such an important day, P&O Cruises has a very strong affinity with the name HMAS Canberra,” Ms Sherry said.

“For many years, Canberra was one of the most famous and loved ships in the P&O fleet and was of course a regular visitor to Sydney Harbour.

“In keeping with HMAS Canberra being commissioned in the Royal Australian Navy fleet, P&O’s Canberra saw high profile military service as a troopship during the Falklands War.”

Pacific Dawn is currently at the Garden Island dry dock for her scheduled dry dock with onboard projects including the laying of 15,000 sq metres of new carpet and 3,000 sq metres of astro turf and the refurbishment of hundreds of cabins.
